kid come home

My Big Kid, Come Home. This is My Forever Promise.

(Inside: My big kid, come home. When life is hard, come home. When life is good, come home. When life is mundane, come home. I always want to hear all about it.)

My big kid, come home.

When the school day unfolds such that during your speech you couldn’t remember any words at all much less the words you were supposed to say and the quiz on graphing parabolas blindsided you, come home. I want to listen.

When the test is handed back and the 96% makes you want to dance right there in the classroom, come home. I want to celebrate with you.

When you open the app and the photo slices through your core, a vulnerable place pressed and you-just-can’t, come home. I want to wrap my arms around you.

When you see who made the top band and your name is on the list but you reign in celebrating because others didn’t, come home. I want to throw confetti with you.

When you walk out onto the court in your normal starting position and your coach calls you back and sends out someone else, the crushing feeling sucking the wind out of you until the last whistle blows, come home. I want to be there for you.

Connect with your big kid over these 400+ conversation starters.

When your whole day is nuts, and you just need to tell someone interested in every tiny detail as you unpack your feelings out loud, come home. I want to give you the time.

When you nervously “put yourself out there” and the whole thought-out situation goes awry ending with flushed cheeks, a head duck, and a scurry away, come home. I want to be your safe place.

When the lunchroom scenario is weird, and you are not sure how to read the friend who switched tables, come home. I want to be a place where you can process.

My big kid, this message is for always.

Middle school.
High school.
Young adult life.
Adult life.

Our doormat reads welcome and that’s meant for you. Always know your mom, dad, and siblings are here waiting for you.

Ready to listen.
Share a meal.
Let you crash.
Give you space.
Pour out encouragement.
Say prayers.
With nourishment spilling out everywhere like water from a sprinkler.

Let this calling echo throughout your whole life.

Soar into adult life, make the decisions, conquer the grind, and through the highs and lows (especially when it’s difficult), may you hear my voice in your heart…

Come home.
I want to hear all about it.
