What if That Thing in front of you is just going to be really hard?
(Inside: What is that mountain in front of you is just going to be really hard? What if you changed your focus to get through?)
What if That Thing in front of you is just going to be really hard?
Parenting,
work,
marriage,
family,
or whatever’s tangling up your brain right now.
What if you’re going to have to lay That Thing at God’s feet every single morning and every single night and a few times in between?
And ask for God to give you perspective.
To view people through his eyes. God created them, loves them, and calls them his children. And for help seeing the best in people, showering patience, choosing kindness, but, also, firmness when boundary lines are needed as you’re God’s cherished too.
To find wisdom. That God will give you straight-up-big-brain-discernment to figure out where you can make a difference and what you need to let go of. And for help asking good questions, gathering resources, listening with heart, and communicating well. Then for God to flashlight beam where your foot goes next.
To give you strength to not doubt yourself. That whatever careful direction you chose and the thought-through words you spoke are not spinning at 2:00 am like a scratched record. That noise is replaced with a supernatural confidence that God is moving purposely in your life.
To adjust your attitude. That you can see what is working, how you’re learning, who is showing up, and how many blessings swirl around you like autumn leaves picked up by a breath of wind. That gratitude will persistently find you.
To help you know that you grow through difficult things in directions you will look back on and be thankful for. Walking through flames burns off things we clung to as important that were just baggage, thickens our armor, and refines us in powerful ways.
What if you accepted that That Thing in front of you is just going to be really hard no matter what you do?
Yet every time you feel That Hard Thing, you decide to not dwell on how excruciating it all can be, but, instead, walk yourself back to God’s feet and lay it down.
Over and over.
Fighting like an Olympian to keep your eyes on Jesus.
And trusting with that focus, someway, somehow, you’ll find victory.
